British petroleum oil spill scandal

BP Oil Spill Scandal Back in April of 2010, an event happened in the Gulf of Mexico which is considered by many to be the worst environmental disaster in the history of the United States.   BP’s oil rig exploded in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and caused millions of gallons to be released into the gulf. Roughly 3.2 million barrels (134 million gallons) of crude oil spilled over the course of 87 days, staining 1,100 miles of coastline. That figure comes from a US federal judge who ruled on the matter. The US government claimed over 4 million barrels seeped into the Gulf, while BP put the figure significantly lower. Bad management and a communications breakdown by BP and its Macondo well partners caused the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the White House oil spill commission said today. A report to the commission said safety lapses were "chronic" at the company and improvements to its systems still needed to be made.

On April 20, 2010, the oil drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, operating in the Macondo Prospect in the Gulf of Mexico, exploded and sank resulting in the death of 11 workers on the Deepwater Horizon and the largest spill of oil in the history of marine oil drilling operations. 4 million barrels of oil flowed from the damaged Macondo well over an 87-day period, before it was finally capped on July 15, 2010. To say that the Gulf oil spill was an organizational accident—something that grew organically out of the culture of the drilling platform—doesn’t mean BP wasn’t responsible. The Spill, The Scandal and the President The inside story of how Obama failed to crack down on the corruption of the Bush years – and let the world’s most dangerous oil company get away with Barbier had the power to levy a fine big enough to make BP plc, BP America’s London-based parent corporation—a company with revenue of a quarter of a trillion dollars a year—go “ouch.” But to slam BP with a fine that would hurt, the judge needed to hear from the Justice Department about corporate-wide perfidy.

Another Massive BP Oil Spill Coverup? The ugly truth is that the U.S. State Department knew of the Caspian disaster and kept its lips sealed. Furthermore, the U.S. government can’t tag BP as an endemically rogue, dangerous operator without casting doubt on the administration’s recent grant to the corporation of new deep tracts to drill in the Gulf of Mexico.
